FAQ

Learn how AegisSole features work and get the most out of your protection.

Smart Routing

Intelligent traffic splitting that routes local traffic directly while sending everything else through the secure tunnel.

What is Smart Routing?
Smart Routing automatically detects your country and splits your traffic intelligently. Local traffic (banking, government sites, streaming services in your region) goes directly through your ISP for maximum speed, while international traffic is routed through AegisSole's encrypted tunnel for privacy. Think of it as the best of both worlds — fast local access and secure international browsing.
What's the difference between Global and Smart mode?
Global mode: All your traffic goes through the encrypted tunnel. This provides maximum privacy but may slow down access to local services. Smart mode: Only international traffic goes through the tunnel. Local traffic connects directly, giving you full speed for domestic services while keeping international browsing private and secure.
How does AegisSole know which traffic is local?
AegisSole uses regularly updated geodata databases that map domains and IP addresses to countries. When you visit a website, the app checks if the destination is in your detected country. If it is, traffic goes direct. If not, it goes through the tunnel. The system also supports cloud-managed rules, so we can add exceptions for specific services (like banking portals) that should always go direct.

Ad & Tracker Blocking

Built-in protection that blocks ads, trackers, and malicious domains before they reach your device.

How does ad blocking work?
AegisSole blocks ads and trackers at the network level — before they even reach your browser. When a request is made to a known advertising or tracking domain, AegisSole silently drops it. This means: • Faster page loads (ads never download) • Less data usage • No tracking cookies or fingerprinting • Works across all apps, not just your browser
What does 'Trackers Blocked' mean in the dashboard?
The 'Trackers Blocked' counter shows how many advertising and tracking requests AegisSole has intercepted during your current session. Each count represents a request to a known ad/tracker domain that was prevented from loading. The number resets each time you connect. A higher number is normal — popular websites can make dozens of tracking requests per page.
Can I turn ad blocking on or off?
Yes. Go to Settings → Routing and toggle 'Block Ads & Trackers'. When turned off, all traffic passes through normally without filtering. When turned on, known ad and tracking domains are blocked automatically. Note: Ad blocking works in both Global and Smart routing modes.

Traffic Statistics

Real-time insight into how your traffic is being routed and protected.

What does 'Via Tunnel' mean?
Traffic shown as 'Via Tunnel' is data that passed through AegisSole's encrypted tunnel to our servers. This traffic is fully encrypted and private — your ISP cannot see what you're accessing. The upload (↑) and download (↓) values show how much data was sent and received through the tunnel during your current session.
What does 'Direct' mean?
Direct traffic bypassed the tunnel and connected to its destination through your regular internet connection. This only happens in Smart Routing mode, where local/domestic traffic is routed directly for better speed. In Global mode, there is no direct traffic — everything goes through the tunnel.
Why are my stats showing zero?
Traffic statistics reset each time you connect. If you just connected, the numbers will start at zero and increase as you browse. If stats remain at zero after browsing, make sure your connection is active (check the status indicator on the Dashboard).

Connection Settings

Understanding kill switch, protocols, and connection behavior.

What is the Kill Switch?
The Kill Switch is a safety net that blocks ALL internet traffic if the encrypted tunnel drops unexpectedly. This prevents your real IP address or unencrypted data from leaking, even for a split second. In AegisSole, the Kill Switch is always enabled and cannot be turned off — because we believe your privacy should never have a gap.
What do the protocol options (Standard / Extended / Legacy) mean?
These are different encryption protocols that AegisSole can use: • Standard — The recommended option. Best balance of speed and security for most users. • Extended — Enhanced security with additional encryption layers. Slightly slower but more resilient. • Legacy — Older protocol for compatibility with certain network configurations. For most users, Standard is the best choice.
What happens when AegisSole reconnects automatically?
If your network changes (e.g. switching from Wi-Fi to Ethernet) or the tunnel connection drops, AegisSole will automatically attempt to reconnect. During reconnection: • The Kill Switch keeps all traffic blocked (no data leaks) • The status shows 'Reconnecting…' • Once the tunnel is re-established, traffic flows normally again This is completely automatic — no action needed on your part.
How do I choose the best server?
For the fastest speeds, choose the server with the lowest latency (shown in milliseconds next to each server). Generally, servers closer to your physical location will be faster. The Servers page shows real-time latency measurements and color-coded indicators: • Green dot = excellent (< 100ms) • Orange dot = acceptable (100–300ms) • Red dot = slow (> 300ms)

Route Tester

A diagnostic tool to see how specific domains will be routed.

What is the Route Tester?
The Route Tester is a tool in Smart Tools that shows you how any domain will be handled by AegisSole's routing engine. Enter a domain (like google.com or baidu.com), and it will tell you whether traffic will go through the tunnel (proxy), be sent directly (direct), or be blocked. This is useful for verifying that Smart Routing is working correctly for specific websites.
What do the route results mean?
• PROXY (blue) — Traffic goes through the encrypted tunnel to AegisSole servers. • DIRECT (green) — Traffic connects directly through your ISP, bypassing the tunnel. • BLOCK (red) — The domain is in the ad/tracker blocklist and will be silently dropped. The result also shows the resolved IP address, helping you verify which server the domain points to.
